On New Year's eve, I took a stroll to some nice areas of central Varsavia. Perhaps they may be of some interest to Italian forumers. These are Frascati and Francesco Nullo streets, close to the very city centre. Sounds familiar??? Below is the above-mentioned gentleman's statue. Francesco Nullo is a national hero here. Garibaldi's former associate, on the outbreak of Poland's freedom uprising against Russian domination in 1863, he arrived to our country to head a regiment of Italian volunteers, willing to join our struggle for independence. He came as a colonel, but for his merits he was promoted to the rank of Polish general by our National Government. He fell in combat at the locality of Krzykawka. This plaque in his honour is affixed to a wall of one of the buildings of the Polish Parliament, which is nearby. I grew up close to this place. Regards to Italian forumers! > |
